Teaching Experience

All too often the process of being educated diminishes the joys of learning. As bell hooks writes, "Sadly, children's passion for thinking often ends when they encounter a world that seeks to educate them for conformity and obedience only." I strive to create an environment where students can take joy in their curiosity. My goal is to empower my students to be independent thinkers who are supported by collaborative, community-based inquiry. I have learned to embrace the chaos that comes with an active, student-centered classroom as it leads my students to discover the "philosophical plumbing" that underpins their daily lives.
